110607 Need Help: Served in Long Binh, Vietnam 10/69-12/70. Need to get in touch with a fellow MP who also served in A Co. 720 MP Battalion, Long Binh.. His first name is Tommy. He was a thin, red head who I remember as a real good kid. I believe he was reassigned with other MP’s to another location in Vietnam, not that long after I arrived in country. One day I had an accident and somehow managed to walk right into the pulled down antenna on our jeep. It struck me in the eye. Tommy drove me to the 24th Evacuation Hospital (I think) where I received medical attention. A patch was put on my eye and I was laid up for a week, back at the base in Long Binh. When the week was up I returned to duty, black eyed and bruised. To the best of my knowledge I never returned for any follow up treatment at the 24th. Luckily I took close up pictures after the patch came off because I don’t think anything was ever documented. As a 60 year old I am now being examined for nerve damage I believed was caused by the accident. Only Tommy can confirm what happened that day as well as duty rosters saying I was off duty due to injury. At the time of the injury I was a PFC. |

030109 Served with C Company, 720th from May 1969 to May 1970 came home for 30 days the went back then was transferred to the 716th "A" Company in Saigon. I went to MP school at Fort Gordon, GA at what was then known as BREAMS braracks after one of the MP's killed in the Tet Offensive in front of the embassy. I was on convoy duty until sent to Cu Chi base camp. Stayed there for several months where we had 5 patrols that worked about 80 miles of highway looking for enemy movement and checking with the local MACV advisors on local conditions. We also monitored local radio freq. for various infantry units in the area to set up ambushes for enemy units trying to cross the roadways where they were know to operate. Was sent back to Long Binh and assigned to 7 man POW escort section where we flew with the 24 Evac Hospital picking up wounded VC and NVA returning them to Long Binh where the POW hospital was. 033109 Greetings to everyone. I need help with identifying an incident that occurred on Hwy 1A at the Dong Ni River Bridge. A Lambretta loaded with civilians were hit with a Claymore that detonated, probably due to the fire the PF were using to clear weeds. There was a CID investigation and both the MPs were cleared of any wrong doing. This occurred around late 1969 or early 1970. I was one of the MPs, but I need my partners name and maybe a date. |
