Tanh Linh was located approximately 25 miles north east of Saigon at the junction of Highway 335 and 336 in III Corps Tactical Zone, Binh Tuy Province. The base was first established in 1965 as a Special Forces Camp and closed in 1967.
 
Other U.S. and allied units to occupy the base and area after 1967 were elements of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade, 1st Air Cavalry and The Royal Australian Forces.

February-April During the months of February, March and April the Tanh Linh Convoy had no regular schedule and was being run on an as needed basis.
