Thien Ngon was located on Highway QL22 approximately 61 miles northwest of Saigon in Tay Ninh Province, within the 3 mile buffer zone of Cambodia in III Corps Tactical Zone.

The base was originally formed by the U.S. Special Forces and later elements of the 25th Infantry Division. In 1972 the operations in the area were conducted by elements of the Army Of The Republic Of South Vietnam (ARVN).
