20 February MAJ Robert W. Dalhauser replaced MAJ Gerald C. Burns as the Battalion Executive Officer (XO). |

2 September 1LT Thomas E. Reynolds was assigned as Battalion S4 (Supply & Logistics) Officer. |

20 December The 89th MP Group subordinate command under the 18th MP Brigade, departed Vietnam and was inactivated 21 December 1971. The 720th MP Battalion was then attached to the 8th Military Police Group (Criminal Investigation) also located at Long Binh Post. The 8th MP Group was responsible for all criminal investigations in Vietnam except those occurring in the Saigon metropolitan area. |
