The R&U Unit was formed within the Battalion to facilitate the construction, repair and maintenance of administrative, living and storage assets. Most members were volunteers selected for their skills in the construction trades. The group consisted of members from each of the Battalions organic companies.

The unit was responsible for construction of and repairs and upgrades to the Battalion theater, officers club, shower and latrine units, mess hall, chapel, etc.

Reflections I remember the day I reported for duty in A Company. We processed in and did what we had to as far as settling in. I remember that first night, as I went to bed listening to gunfire and seeing flares light up the night sky. I really wondered how I would ever get through an entire year in that place. The next morning I was selected to become a part of what was called the R & U Unit. This was a group of MPs they pulled from A, B, and C companies to work as a construction crew.

Before the year was out we were responsible for building an officer's club, a movie theater, and other projects. All for the use of the guys in the 720th on Long Binh Post.   SP/4 Marvin L. “Marv” Conover, R&U Unit, A Company, 720th MP Battalion, 89th MP Group, 18th MP Brigade, October 1967 to October 1968.
