At the start of 1981 the 720th MP Battalion was headquartered subordinate to III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas.

16 July The 89th Military Police Group, Fort Hood, Texas, was reorganized as the 89th Military Police Brigade. In Vietnam the 720th MP Battalion was subordinate to the 89th MP Group, under the 18th MP Brigade.
