1 May 1SG Mike Preradovic was sent to Saemal to scout for a new Company area.

2 May The Company moved to a small village about two miles east of Saemal called Cuwnni. The orderly room and supply tents were set up. The entire Company got a break for a few days then set up three road patrols. Two from Saemal to Hoengsong, and one from Saemal to Wonju.

3 May LT Gladding was transferred to the 2nd MP Company, 2nd Infantry Division, CPL Miller departed for Tokyo for seven days as a witness in a courts marshal, and two enlisted men were hospitalized.
2nd

4 May The Company received two new replacements.

8 May The Company was ordered to start the operation of two Speed Checks, with stop watches, one on the Hoengsong-Wonju Road, the other on the Saemal-Hoengson Road. One officer and twelve enlisted men were assigned to the detail.

The next few days were routine with everything running smoothly and no new commitments.

17 May The Communist Chinese Forces began an offensive (2nd Chinese Communist Spring Offensive), and all of the Company’s available MP’s were assigned to collecting the Republic Of Korea [ROK] soldiers who broke ranks at the front and retreated towards the rear.

A Collection Point was established at the Company Command Post and as soon as enough ROK’s were collected they were provided with jeep escorts and convoyed the thirty miles north to Hapae Jae, and turned over to 1LT Frank M. Robbins. From Hebae Jae 1LT Robbins with six enlisted men moved the ROK soldiers back to the front lines.

With the additional duties and lateral movement of Allied troops on the Main Supply Route the Company manpower was totally expended.

The Company received ninety enlisted men transferred from the X Corps Headquarters Honor Guard. Un fortunately it was only a paper transfer.

19 May The Company received an additional sixteen enlisted men transferred from X Corps Headquarters General’s Escort, another paper transfer.

With the Communist push Cong our way the Company was again ordered to move, this time back to Chechon, where the Company Command Post was set up in anticipation of recovered of the rest of the Company assets.

The Company lost eighteen enlisted men transferred to the X Corps MP Platoon.

1700 hours Three enlisted men, SGT Rice, CPL Ship, and PFC James O. Eberhard were seriously injured in a vehicle crash. Their 3/4 ton truck rolled over an embankment. All three were hospitalized. PFC Eberhard received a broken shoulder when the truck rolled over on him, CPL Ship a broken back, and SGT Rice a broken leg and foot that caught in the steering wheel when the truck rolled over.

23 May The Company lost an additional 15 enlisted men transferred to the 24th, 2nd, 3rd Infantry Divisions and the 1st Cavalry Division.

25 May the remainder of the MP’s and their equipment were brought back from Chechon to Saemal.

26 May The Company packed up and moved back to Hongchon. A detail of one officer and fourteen enlisted men were already there assigned to the Main Supply Route [MSR], keeping the allied convoys rolling toward Inje. As more of the Company arrived at Hongchon they were sent to supplement the detail on the MSR. The United Nations forces had broken the back of the Communist Offensive and were racing forward trying to trap the remnants.

The Company was responsible for the entire MSR. SGT Klein, Operations, took one detail of MP’s out and did not return for two days, staying with Task Force Baker who were spearheading the drive. LT Robbins also stayed forward with a group.

This was the best piece of work the Company had done since the Chosin Reservoir. They seem to work best when the going in the roughest.

During this time period the Company was in a state of confusion with men out as much as two days without relief and eating when and wherever possible. One of the MP’s, CPL Mott, shot one Chinese soldier and captured another while on a remote bridge detail. That action brought the total number of enemy captured by the Company to twenty.

28 May The Company lost another twenty-one enlisted men, transferred to the 88th MP Company, 772 MP Battalion, and five to the 2nd MP Company, 2nd Infantry Division.

29 May The Company received a new Supply Sergeant. The Company was ordered to start accepting enemy Prisoners Of War [POW], so they constructed a new enclosure.

The POW’s are only held until 521st MIS has completed their interrogation and classification. They are then transported to Wonju. The 521st MIS has forwarded a Letter Of Commendation citing the Company for their POW work.

31 May The Company has confined and processed a total of one-hundred and eighty-seven Chinese Communist Forces and North Korean Peoples Army soldiers.

Presently the Company staffing consist of one platoon of regular MP’s and two platoons of Honor Guard (X Corps HQ), working jointly with the Company MP’s on assignments.
