June/July ? Members of the 188th MP Company from the detachment were responding in their V100 to the scene of a huge booby trapped roadblock between Cai Lay and My Tho when they came across a Vietnamese truck that had driven off the road and flipped on its side. The crew, SP/4’s Jim Preusz, Huley R. Johnson and John M. Novak stopped to render assistance to the ARVN occupants. They treated the driver for minor injuries and used their V100 to pull the truck back onto the roadway.

The crew then continued on their four mile trip from Cai Lay to the roadblock. At the scene they found four 55 gallon drums and a lot of mud in the middle of the road. There were also seven 10 kilogram plastic charges and one 20 kilogram mine planted in the roadblock. It took the men from the 15th Engineer Battalion four hours to blast the roadblock with a whole series of charges. The crew members from the 188th performed traffic control and perimeter security during the clearing operation.

June/July ? Members of the Cai Lay Detachment V100 crew responded to a report of a truck striking a mine on Highway 4-A between My Tho and Cai Lay. The heavily loaded truck received serious damage to its rear. The crew members, SGT Robert L. Anderson, SP/4 Alvin Lee and PFC Edward J. Matthews, secured the scene, provided first aid, and assisted with traffic until the roadway could be cleared to the heavy daily traffic.

5 February the 188th Military Police Company detachment at Cai Lay was reassigned to the command of the 720th Military Police Battalion when its parent unit the 92nd Military Police Battalion was the first MP Headquarters to be deactivated and withdrawn from Vietnam.

September B Company of the 720th MP Battalion assumed responsibility for the discipline, law and order missions in IV Corps from the 188th MP Company. The 188th was scheduled for reassignment to DaNang in II Corps so to avoid the logistical problem associated with the move B Company who had just completed their assignment from Operation STABILIZE in the Tactical Area of Responsibility was redesignated as the 188th and sent to DaNang. Weeks prior to the move experienced NCO's were divided between the two companies to maintain continuity of mission.
