At the start of the year the Battalion's HQ & HQ Detachment and its subordinate units of the 178th MP Detachment, 64th, 401st, 410th, and 411th MP Companies commanded by LTC David D. Stender, were headquartered subordinate to the 89th MP Brigade, III Corps at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas. |
23 January The 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade’s backbone became stronger during a noncommissioned officer induction ceremony held at the Howze Auditorium. The battalion inducted 18 new NCOs from the 178th Military Police Detachment, 64th Military Police Company, 401st Military Police Company, 410th Military Police Company, and 411th Military Police Company. Guest speaker for the event, SGM Robert Parker, who serves as the III Corps Provost Marshal Office operations sergeant major, spoke to the soldiers about the responsibility that comes with their new rank. |
Each new NCO signs a copy of the NCO Creed and Charge after marching through the ceremonial arch. |
Those being promoted were: SGT Justin Chance, 401st MP Company; SGT Mark Whittaker, 178th MP Detachment and others yet to be identified. |

Change of Command |
20 February LTC David D. Stender passed command of the battalion to LTC Karst Brandsma during a change of command ceremony on Gauntlet Field, Fort Hood, Texas. Later that day a farewell party was held. |

Exact Date Unknown Battalion Vietnam Veteran Gerard J. “Jerry” Wolfe who served as a SP/4 with Bravo Company in 1968-1969 was one of several era veterans from VFW Post 2856, Livingston, NJ who visited Livingston High School to speak with an auditorium of students about the Vietnam War. |

30 September The Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan Newspaper published a profile of local resident and Vietnam War Veteran Robert L. Chavis. Chavis a retired Army captain, served in 1968 with the battalion as a first lieutenant in Bravo Company in III Corps Tactical Zone, Bien Hoa Province. He was the platoon leader for Operation STABILIZE, the company’s historical counterinsurgency and pacification mission in their 22 square mile Tactical Area Of Responsibility. |
