April

2 April CPT Ray W. Lattimore departed the 188th.

With the departure of U.S. Marine and Army units from Military Region-I under the intensified Vietnamization program, the 18th MP Brigade needed to supplement the line duty military police units lost in the standown. The 188th was selected to fill that void in DaNang.

July
The 188th was ordered to deploy to DaNang in Military Region-I

Bravo Company of the 720th MP Battalion headquartered on Long Binh Post was standing-down from its three year infantry counterinsurgency-pacification mission outside the southern border of Long Binh Post in Bien Hoa Provence, Military Region-III. The 18th MP Brigade required an experienced line duty MP company to fill the void being left by the departure of the 188th MP Company. The 720th MP Battalion was ordered to expand its combat service-support mission into Military Region-IV. With Bravo Company being selected to replace the 188th, their transition from a pure three year infantry mission to line duty disiclipine, law, and order would require refresher training.

Time for refresher training was not available so to maintain mission continuity, experience, and area familiarization, personel transferres were started between both companies.

10 July CPT Dennis Fogarty passed command of 188th MP Company, 720th MP Battalion to CPT Walter B. Koszyk. CPT Koszyk passes command of the new Bravo Company to CPT Fogarty.

18 July 1LT Charles W. Smith is assigned as a Platoon Leader.

19 July B Company & 188th MP Company begin the change with the infantry mission in the 18th MP Brigade Tactical Area of Responsibility coming to a close (25 July). Members of B Company started shipping out to DaNang to staff the newly redesignated 188th MP Company while other members stayed behind to staff the new B Company (formerly the 188th) in the IV Corps Tactical Zone (Mekong Delta). Likewise in the 188th some members were transferred to DaNang, others to various local MP units, depending on theirremaining tour time, and some remained.
