The 720th MP Battalion Is Reactivated at Fort Hood, Texas without Alpha, Bravo & Charlie Companies |
14-30 August |
The 720th MP Battalion was inactive. At the time of the Battalions deactivation in Vietnam (13 August) the Department of The Army (DOA) had changed the structure of the Military Police Battalion TO&E. The Battalion HQ Detachment retained its history but the letter companies, Alpha, Bravo, & Charlie remained inactivated, and their 31 years of distinguished service and history were relegated to the dust bins of military history. |
31 August |
After 18 days of inactivation since leaving South Vietnam on 13 August 1972, the 720th MP Battalion HQ Detachment was reactivated when the 518th MP Battalion HQ Detachment, and its subordinate MP Companies, was redesignated as the 720th MP Battalion, 5th Army, III Corps, LTC Gerald G. Gibbons Commanding, during ceremonies at Fort Hood, Texas. The Battalions three subordinate companies were now the 401st, 410th, and 411th MP Companies, each with its own historical lineage. The lineage of the 401st has yet to be posted by the Center of Military History. The 410th was constituted 15 May 1945 in the U.S. Army as the 1401st MP Company, and activated in the Philippines, and inactivated 25 March 1946 in Japan. |
On 18 June 1970 It was redesignated as the 410th MP Company and reactivated 1 November 1970 at Fort Hood, Texas. Later its soldiers would adopt "Bravo Spirit" as their official company motto thus honoring the proud history of Bravo Company. |
The 411th was constituted 12 December 1942 in the U.S. Army as the 1114th MP Company, and activated 1 January 1943 at Warner Robins Army Air Depot, Georgia. It was inactivated 10 December 1945 in India, redesignated on 18 June 1970 as the 411th MP Company, and activated 1 November 1970 at Fort Hood, Texas |
